The seeds of The Franklin Hotel were planted in a boarding house in the early 1900s when a young boy named Henry dreamed of everything he didn’t have: Luxury. Privacy. Comfort. Hospitality. And most of all, community.
With each passing year, Henry’s dream intensified, becoming a permanent fixture in his imagination. The dream of a place where travelers from all over would come together, sleep in well-appointed rooms with beds that featured the finest linens, and be treated like royalty regardless of their station. This dream kept him going through WWI, the Prohibition, and even the beginning of the Great Depression. Finally, after years of saving and sheer determination, Henry’s dream became a reality when he purchased a modest brownstone and turned it into a cherished hotel in New York’s Upper East Side. In a tribute to a fundamental and positive influence of his youth, he named it The Franklin Hotel, after Miss Beverly Franklin, the owner of the boarding house that he called home for so many years.
